About

I used to record the outgoing message on the answering machine at the cooperative house where I lived, and it would be long, listing off 5-7 housemates and sometimes other info. So I started adding silly things at the end. “You can also leave a message for Olga’s Organic Ostrich Eggs. Please note we can only make deliveries on orders of 2 dozen or more eggs.” When Megan moved in with her dog, Marisol, it was Marisol’s Macrobiotic Dogtreats for a while. Then it was Roxy’s Racoon Grooming, in honor of my friend Sheri’s dog, who is named after Rocky Raccoon, and has battled real raccoons. When I was looking for something new, Sheri was having trouble with groundhogs in her yard, and I think she suggested Greta’s Groundhog Grooming. Somehow that stuck. When a housemate was applying for jobs and wanted a simpler and more professional answering machine message, I moved Greta’s Groundhog Grooming to my cell phone. And more than a year later, it is still on my cell phone, because sometimes people tell me it made them laugh, and in this world I think we can all use some laughter. And also because, perhaps to other people’s chagrin, I am a great fan of a running gag.

I also think there is a philsophy of groundhog grooming. As soon as I figure it out, I will post it.

Something about me. I am a packrat who aspires to minimalism, a compulsive recycler, a cat lover, a worrier about climate change, a once (and I hope future) peace activist, a backrub junkie, a fiction reader, a nonviolence trainer, a desultory crafter, a wanna-be vegan, a watcher of too much tv, and as of now,a blogger.
